Nokia is now 'Microsoft Mobile'

Microsoft to officially take over Nokia on Friday

Microsoft will be taking over Nokia in a few days after sealing a $7.2 billion deal.
On April 25, Nokia will sell "substantially all of its Devices & Services business to Microsoft."
Nokia's latest update says that "certain customary closing conditions" are all that stands in the way of the acquisition being finalized.
Microsoft has agreed to oversee and manage Nokia.com and all of the company's social media sites for at least a year.
As soon as the deal is rubber stamped, the name "Nokia" will also be dropped. It will be replaced by the new subsidiary Microsoft Mobile. - ANC

Grabe nakaka inspire sila! LOOK: 'Biggest Loser' before and after photos

The last five finalists of "The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition: Doubles" will soon be trimmed down to four as they face each other in another competitive weigh-in on Thursday.
Making the show’s top 5 are Carl and Kayen of Team Mag-Asawa, Osie and Francis of BigaTeam and Bryan of Team Magkapatid.
In their last major challenge, the remaining finalists climbed Mt. Pinatubo while carrying bags that weighed as much as the pounds they had lost.
“This is a great symbolism. You’re hiking up the mountain, but your weight is dragging you down,” said Carl.
Kayen, for her part, said, “I’m praying that we join the Final 4 because it will serve as an exclamation point in my journey with Carl.”
Meanwhile, the hike made Francis recall the moments when he and Osie had to help each other throughout the competition.
“If you think about it, during our stay in the camp, there were times that we pulled each other up. This time, I helped Mommy Osie so we could advance together,” he said.
“My weight has been a curse, and I will do everything to not gain it back again. I know that when I leave the camp, a new life is waiting for me,” said Osie after finishing the challenge.
Bryan won the last challenge after reaching the crater, their final stop, ahead of the others.
“I left behind the old Bryan. Even if I don’t join the finale as one of the Final Four, I have already proven myself by finishing the last stretch of this challenge,” he said.

Movie Review for Da Possessed - Striving for Cheapness

Movie Review for Da Possessed

Striving for Cheapness

by posted on Mon, 21 Apr 2014 1:57 PM

The first possession in Da Possessed takes place an hour into the movie. One would think that a movie called Da Possessed would be chock full of possessions, but this is not the case. It is concerned with many other things, very few of which actually matter in the long run. At times, it feels like the film is just making it up as it goes along, painfully stretching out random inanity and calling it a plot. It grows pretty tedious, and it upends what little appeal it has by going for cheap jokes.

Ramon (Vhong Navarro) has been seeing ghosts all his life. As a result, he's grown up a coward. When he sees anything remotely spooky or surprising, he runs back home and jumps into his mother's arms. To help his family keep their house, he puts aside his fears and gets a job as a landscape artist at a construction site. While on the job, he unwittingly frees three spirits seeking revenge on Don Demetrio (Joey Marquez), the owner of the property. The spirits use him as an instrument of their vengeance, possessing his body in order to carry out their plan. The film takes its sweet time getting to the point. There's really no reason that the film should be two hours long, but it is. The plot hardly moves in the first hour, the film largely wasting its time on long, pointless gags. Some of the ideas are funny, and the actors are certainly committed to their comedic conceits. But more often than not, scenes over stay their welcome. They drive jokes into the ground, wearing out the humor and the novelty through sheer repetition. What might be funny once is rarely funny the second time around. The fifth iteration is intolerable.

When the movie does get going, it refuses to make any sense. The movie never really gets around to explaining why the ghosts need Ramon in the first place. At one point, the ghosts are granted the power to levitate people, and hold them in compromising positions. And yet, rather than exercise this ability to further their revenge, they spend all their time mucking around with Ramon and his family. The plot as a whole is executed so halfheartedly that they really shouldn't have bothered anymore. It keeps introducing ideas that it doesn’t follow up on.

Vhong Navarro does a fair Jerry Lewis impression in his portrayal of the cowardly Ramon. His talent for physical comedy is used well enough, his commitment to bits often overcoming the obvious limitations of the production. A throwaway reference to his recent troubles really taints his involvement however. After all the hullabaloo about how he was wronged, it seems pretty reprehensible to play that off for laughs. Solenn Heussaff continues to be effective in comedies, thanks largely to her willingness to look silly.

Da Possessed is a pretty bad movie to begin with. It is far too long, and too much of it feels lazy thrown off. But it lost all my sympathy when it made reference to Navarro's current case. It's wholly unnecessary, and it gives the entire project a taint of cheapness. This is standard operating procedure for local mainstream comedies of course. Few can go without breaking the fourth and referencing something in the news concerning its stars. But we shouldn't have to put up with that. It's cheap and awful and we all deserve better.

Visa-free travel to Japan may start by June

MANILA – The Philippine Ambassador to Japan on Wednesday said that Filipinos may travel to the land of the rising sun without any need for a visa by June.
"We are just awaiting the official advice, but from reliable sources and from the newspaper accounts that have come out already, it seems that its likely going to happen sometime in June of this year," said Ambassador Manolo Lopez.
Lopez said the ease in visa requirement is part of Japan's plan to boost its economy.
"Since the administration of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe came into power in December 2012, the economy of japan have started to inch up and they would like to sustain this momentum by inviting more tourism coming in to Japan and they realized that in Southeast Asia that there is a lot of wealth in these countries," he said in an interview with ANC.
The ambassador added that Japan is targeting 20 million tourists in six years. It will also host the 2020 Olympic Games.
"Japan is targeting 20 million tourists by 2020 and they only breached the 10 million mark recently and so they will liberalize more and more the entry to Japan from other countries," he said.

3 million + views Sarah G- Let it Go

She delivered the song with justice though not perfectly executed. Her aura when she sings is priceless.
Would've been better if she sang the whole song. I mean, including the bridge part. That is my favorite. :D
Sounds a bit like Elsa if you listen carefully
Unlike many, i wont pretend that i know where she was flat or what note she didnt hit. I wont claim to be someone im not. But watching this vid made me smile. It may not be technically perfect as many would say but it was a heartfelt rendition.

Sobrang tagal na akong fan ni SG, since Star for a Night. =P Just wanted to say na I think tama ka, yun ang wala sa ibang artists kaya hindi patok sa madaming tao --- walang charm. Si Sarah sobrang charming and endearing, pareho while performing or siya as a person. love you SG!
A great singer is a great storyteller and SARAH did it with Excellence and Class
I'm not a Sarah G fan (or a Popster, heck no!) but performances like this makes me want to be one -- still not a Popster. This really surprised me and Sarah impressed me. This is even better than Adele Dazeem's
-ehem -Idina Menzel's performance at the Oscars. This is international. I like how she showcased her voice range here. Well, we all know Sarah. She's like the package, the diva. And to the bashers -- can't believe you are being subjective. Tone deafs? Problems with hearing? Frozen haters? Music haters? Or insecure? By the way, Let It Go is perfect for her, Mommy D. and all. Haha kidding. Good thing this was trending in tge Phil., I wouldn't have seen the best Let It Go cover.

9 Amazing Benefits of Coffee

It may lower your risk of death.
We're all going to die eventually, but coffee appears to lengthen the "when" for individuals with certain chronic conditions such as heart disease and diabetes, according to a large 2012 study. In fact, the study found that the more coffee (three or more cups a day), the lower the risk of death regardless of whether participants drank caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee. Findings were similar to another large study published in 2008.

It helps make your reproductive systems happy.
Guys, if you're looking for a drink to lower your risk of prostate cancer, and ladies lower your risk of endometrial cancer, then keep that coffee habit going! A 2011 study found that men consuming at least six or more cups a day reduced their risk of prostate cancer by 20 percent! Another study published in the Journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention found that women who drank more than four cups of coffee a day had a 25 percent lower risk of endometrial cancer.

It can help lower your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
A 2012 study found that a compound in coffee actually helped to block a substance in the body called human islet amyloid polypeptide that may play a role in the development of diabetes. Further studies have demonstrated that caffeinated coffee consumption is linked to decreased diabetes risk as well.

It helps protect your brain.
Coffee drinkers are more likely to resist development of dementia and Alzheimer's later in life according to a 2009 study . Another study done on rats found that just the smell of coffee helped to reduce stress that was associated with loss of sleep. So, if you're smiling next time you roll out of bed and walk toward the coffee pot, there may be a reason why!

It could help you recover after colon surgery.
If you've ever had surgery, you know one big sign of recovery is the return of bowel function. One study found that coffee consumption helped to speed this recovery sign when compared to water drinkers.

It's great for your skin.
Drinking coffee may help you to ward off the most diagnosed form of skin cancer! A study in the journal Cancer Research that looked specifically at the caffeine in coffee demonstrated that coffee drinkers had a lower risk of developing basal cell carcinoma.

It may help to reduce your risk of oral cancer.
Although studies on coffee consumption and decreased risk of cancer are limited, a recent large study found that individuals who drank four or more cups of coffee a day had a 50 percent lower risk of death from oral cancers in a 25-year time frame.

It may help you strengthen your muscles -- and your DNA.
A study in the journal Cell Metabolism found that caffeine actually had a similar effect to our DNA molecules in our muscles as exercise (now, this does not mean you can stop exercising). The study looked specifically at DNA changes of muscles in sedentary individuals and found that positive effects from coffee were similar to effects derived from exercise. The most interesting factor in the study was the fact that these positive changes were seen rather quickly.

The Effects of Ecstasy Use

Side Effects

Like any drug, ecstasy can produce unexpected side effects. Some physiological effects of the drug include the following: Nausea Hallucinations Sweating and chills Fever Shaking and tremors Muscle cramping Blurred vision The side effects of ecstasy overdose are more extreme.

These symptoms merit immediate medical treatment: High blood pressure Lightheadedness Panic attacks Seizures Loss of consciousness Extreme increase in body temperature At its most extreme, ecstasy overdose may cause death by heat stroke and heart failure. Because it masks the need for food, water and rest, this substance has also been implicated in dehydration and exhaustion. Long Term Effects of Ecstasy While research on the long term effect of ecstasy is ongoing, certain traits are shared by regular users. For example, a 1998 study asserted that irreparable damage to serotonin neurotransmitters was observed in a subject group of users.

Since serotonin levels affect learning, sleep and emotional processes, such damage can leave users severely impaired. Without proper functioning of the neurotransmitters, conditions such as depression, anxiety and memory loss are much more likely to occur. Of course, continued use can also bring about an addiction.
